Check Out The Studio | Chicago South Suburbs Photography Studio

Cedar + Moss Studios is located in New Lenox, IL right in between I-80 and I-355. We got our name from our organic and natural tones and our location. We are off of Cedar Rd and North of Maple Rd… [moss grows on the north side of maple trees]. So what makes our studio amazing? Lots and lots of things.

The location is nestled in the corner of the building which is great for privacy. It is ceiling to floor of all pure white. Light bounces off of everything! This is perfect for those overcast days, which are hard to photograph in when there usually aren’t many windows. The great thing about our place is that we have two walls of windows, one of which is south facing; which means, there is light streaming through all day. We soften the sunlight with our white sheer curtains and play around with the hotspots on the floor that come through the front door. We personally love hotspots, they show dimension and add an element of design and the photos don’t appear as flat.

Our sitting area is for relaxing! We usually place the family/parents there when we are working. We have a coffee station, snacks, and water for our clients. When we are shooting newborns, we ask that the parents sit and relax while we take care of the rest. If we are shooting the kiddos, its also better for the parents/adults to sit away from the kids so that they are looking at the camera and not a ton of other places. So sit back and relax while we drive!

One thing we love are places to put your booty. We love chairs and we use several of them in every session. We have perfect sizes for the kiddos, older kids, parents, adults, grams and pops. Depending on your wardrobe is dependent on which chair we will use for you session and we try to get all angles and height levels of your family. We are always on the hunt for new chairs, so things are always changing which helps your photos look different from year to year.

We use the bed in our studio for several different types of sessions. They work well for those sitters that just aren’t quite sitting all by themselves. We also use them for family snuggle time and couples. We LOVE texture! It really gives dimension in your image and the more we add, the more the bed area looks cozy and inviting and natural in your sessions and not just a bed in a white space. We recently just added greens and plants to this area to add some natural elements and pops of color.

The rolling walls are our newest addition. Wood on one side and black on the other. We can easily move the all around the studio for the best lighting and when the hotspots shine through in just the right spot, we move the wall to grab them. We also like to use the walls in full, we don’t pretend they are a backdrop, we like to do things a little differently and this is one of those special differences that we have. We can roll the wall to the side of the bed to divide up the space and create more of a bedroom. The walls are also great for the modern and fearless headshots that we love.

Ahh! We adore our couch area. Boho is very in right now, so we added the basket wall to break up the white space and add dimension, texture and color. Surrounded that sucker with all kinds of real plants and threw in two different color rugs for again more dimension. This area doesn't always work for every session, but we love that we can customize a session per family and not all look the same.

We have a huge wardrobe! Most of the dresses are wraps and fit many sizes. The kids clothes are for both genders for smaller sizes and the larger the kids size, the more girl options we have. If you are interested in our wardrobe, stay tuned for a blog featuring what we offer; in the mean time, just let us know you are interested. We can help you decide on what would work for your type of session.

This is where it all began! We still adore our all white photos and deliver several of those in your gallery. There is just something so calming and simple in all white images. If you haven't noticed, we do not use props. We aren’t the biggest fans of props for several reasons. One: it takes away from the subject. If you want photos of your child, then thats what you are going to get. You aren’t going to get a photo of a prop that takes the focus off of your child. Another reason: is the timelessness of your images. We want you to print your images and hang them in your home for years and years. If you have a photo of your child with a large balloon, the chances of you printing that photo and displaying it are very slim. Our main focus is YOU. And what better way of displaying you then in an all white area.
