Do You Have Questions About Senior Portraits?

Chances are, this is your first time thinking about senior pictures. Whether you’re a high school senior or a parent, this might be the first time you’re planning for senior portraits. Maybe you’ve seen your older sibling or friend plan theirs, but it’s always different when it’s your very own. We’ve compiled the frequently asked questions about the senior portrait experience—from the planning to the session, and the session premiere. We understand that both moms and seniors are often filled with questions about this exciting milestone, and we’re here to help make it an enjoyable and memorable experience. We’ve crafted a step-by-step client journey to guide you through the entire process. Below, you’ll find some of the most common questions we’ve received over the years. As always, we are here to be your guide, so the process is not overwhelming for you.

What do I wear for my senior portraits?

Once you've booked your session, we will provide you with a complete "What to Wear" guide, packed with tips to ensure you look your best during the shoot.

What time of year is best to get my senior portraits done?

We begin photographing outdoor senior portraits around early to mid-April, when fresh spring blooms provide a bright and unique backdrop. Summer evening sessions are another great option, as they can be scheduled after work hours. However, fall is the most popular season for senior portraits, with its colorful foliage and cooler air providing a stunning backdrop. Consider your vision for the session—whether you want to wear flowy dresses and sandals, or cozy sweaters and jackets—and start planning accordingly!

How far in advance should I book my session?

If you’re looking for fall portraits with peak foliage, we recommend booking as early as possible, as this is a busy time of year. Most of our clients start booking before summer, ensuring they get their preferred date. Also, keep in mind upcoming school schedules, college applications, and yearbook deadlines. The senior portrait experience is one that takes time, so don't wait too long—by late August, most fall sessions are already booked.

Can my friend and I have our portraits done together?

Absolutely! We encourage it. Senior year is such a memorable time in your life, and having your bestie by your side during the session makes it even more special. We offer add-on packages for friend sessions, so feel free to ask us about the details.

Can we book a family session at the same time as a senior session?

Yes, definitely! This is the perfect time to capture updated family portraits while celebrating your senior’s big milestone. We offer special add-on packages for family sessions, and these photos can even be used for your holiday cards. Let us know if you'd like to include your family in your senior shoot!

Where will my session take place?

We’ll work together to select the perfect location based on your style and vision. Whether you prefer an urban feel in a downtown setting, a natural backdrop by a lake, or a mix of both, we have a variety of location options to fit your personality. You’ll have the freedom to choose the location that resonates most with you.

How would you describe your style?

Our style blends editorial and relaxed posing. We aim to photograph you as naturally and authentically as possible. Don’t worry if you’re unsure of how to pose—we’ll guide you every step of the way, teaching you how to sit, stand, and even lay down to create flattering, dynamic shots. Inspired by lifestyle photography and magazines, our sessions are a mix of both posed and candid photos that capture your true essence.
